Weekly Photo Challenge: SOLITARY (Commune with Nature)

It is an hour-walk from his hut. But every morning after a cup of chai and a piece of roti, he will walk to the side of the river to soak his towel and pat his face with the cold water flowing from the mountains. He whispers his morning prayer, undisturbed by the tourists, vendors, schoolchildren and delivery trucks passing by the nearby highway. He communes with this grand creation, of which he is a part of, in his own way.

Photo taken at Echo Point, Munnar, Kerala, India last March 2012.

Solitude is not just the state of being alone. I believe that solitude is the state when you focus your everything to achieve a goal despite the distractions around you. You are not alone; you are engaged with a book, an idea, an activity or an aspiration. Like this man on the photo, he is in communion with nature in his solitary way.

Join the Weekly Photo Challenge and appreciate how each one of us spend some of our time in solitude.

  4. Absolutely correct! Being solo, alone does not equate with being lonely. It’s possible to commune with nature while in the company of others and often that’s a great experience but there is something special about going solo during those moments.
