I have a new-found, or rather renewed, love. Cycling. It has been my dream to ride a bike on the way to school when I was an undergraduate but conditions in Quezon City, my hometown in the Philippines, made it a bit dangerous and inconvenient for girls like me. I tried it again when I was in Japan, but the long winters and the close proximity between my dormitory and my classes’ venues made it untimely and ridiculous. I renewed this love here in Australia and this time, I vow not to have any excuses. Although from my dormitory to my office is just a 5-minute walk, I cycle as much as possible. I also make it a habit to cycle every Monday near the lake; an hour of cycling, I estimate.

I like cycling because I like speed. I always savor the wind rushing against my face, the seemingly involuntary pedaling of my feet and most importantly, the surroundings–the lake, the sunset, the buildings, the people. Cycling is literally moving forward. Metaphorically, it renews my spirit to move on with life.

I’ve been a bike commuter for four years now. Of course, during Wisconsin winters I walk to get around, but that is usually only three months out of the year.
I can’t wait to get back on my bike again…it’s the best! I’m so glad you renewed your cycling love. : )
I’m also glad I did, Britt. And I wish you a sunny weather soon! :)
